The DataBee Data Catalog offers a user-friendly interface designed to empower engineers, analysts, and stakeholders by providing easy access and a comprehensive understanding of data products and views. It captures and stores essential metadata related to data assets, including data types, schemas, source lineage, and quality metrics, helping users to explore, understand, and trust their data.
Key Features
Discover Data Assets
Effortlessly find the data assets you need by searching and browsing through the catalog's standardized and well-organized metadata. This significantly reduces the time spent manually searching for appropriate data assets, streamlining the data discovery process.
Understand Data Assets
Each data asset in the catalog is accompanied by detailed documentation, which includes its source, structure, quality, and usage guidelines. This ensures that you have a thorough understanding of the data’s context, helping you effectively use the assets for analysis, reporting, and decision-making.
Assess Data Quality and Trustworthiness
The catalog provides valuable insights into the data lineage, tracking the asset's journey from creation to consumption. By examining the lineage, you can assess the reliability and applicability of the data, enabling informed decisions when selecting or customizing the data.
Navigating the DataBee Data Catalog
After logging into the DataBee interface, click the Data Catalog button on the top-right side.
This takes you to the “DataHub” page, where you can discover and organize your organization's data. From here, you can easily search for datasets, dashboards, pipelines, and more.
Data Exploration
By Platform: Data platforms refer to third-party systems or tools that manage your data. Examples include data warehouses like Snowflake and BI tools like Tableau.
By Most Popular: Explore frequently accessed data assets within your organization, enabling you to quickly identify widely-used resources.
Find your data
The search bar is your launchpad for discovering and collaborating on the data that matters most to you. You can search across various data types - columns, tables, dashboards, people, and more.
Narrow your search
Use the following methods to refine your results:
Basic Filters: Use the dropdown menus to filter by platform, type, or container.
Advanced Filters: Click on Advanced Filters in the top-right corner to apply more specific filters. Select + Add Filter from the top-left dropdown and choose from available options. To revert, click Basic Filters in the top-right corner.
Lineage
Data lineage provides a comprehensive map of how data flows through your organization. It tracks the origin of the data, the path it follows, and its final destination. By visualizing data lineage, you can clearly understand both the upstream sources that impact the data and the downstream systems or users that depend on it. This helps in identifying dependencies, ensuring data quality, and improving overall data management.
Follow the steps below to view the data lineage of any entity.
Choose the table or data feed you want to explore from the dataset list.
Click on the Lineage tab, then select Visualize Lineage.
Use the Show Columns toggle at the top to view detailed columns for each dataset.
Click the + button to reveal more upstream or downstream tables or feeds.
Click on any table to see how it connects with other datasets downstream.
A column can be tracked through the entire system by either hovering on the column or using the search functionality on any table
Note:
Currently, all feeds are displayed that populate a given OCSF table, even if the tenant has not onboarded the feed.
